Instant Sophistication: 5 Elegant Designer Recommended Home Enhancements
As an interior designer, I cannot stress how much elegance lies in the details. Luckily, with just a few thoughtful changes, you can instantly achieve the upgrade you desire. Today, I am sharing 5 tactical ways to add designer touches you can complete yourself (no need to call electricians or plumbers!) and rather quickly!
Replace damaged or almond colored outlets with a clean white outlet cover. These are my favorite outlet covers for those outlets with receptacles are also an off color. These avoid the problem of a white outlet cover with yellowish contact openings.
Add rug pads underneath your area rugs. Not only do these protect your rugs and make them last longer, they also add a luxurious cushion to every step you take.
Install Picture Lights above your favorite art pieces. Battery Operated Picture Lights are now widely available. They can elevate any piece without having to make a call to your electrician (and the drywall guy!).
Flank your TV with sconces. IF you have the space, I love to add wall sconces to either side of your main TV. This does not always make sense for every space, but can sure elevate the room if you do have the space. I would not recommend it if the TV is above a mantel and extends past the mantel or is the same size as the mantel. You want to ensure there is room for the sconces to fit (visually) between the edge of the mantel and the edge of the TV on each side. Want to avoid a call to the electrician? Purchase battery operated bulbs!
Add an additional curtain panel to each side of your window. If you only have one curtain panel flanking each side of your window, consider purchasing another set. Adding an additional panel to each side of the window, will make your curtains look fuller and more luxurious instantly! Bonus points if you add a nice shade like this one that requires ZERO tools to install!. For my best tips on hanging curtains see my blog post all about it linked here..
Bonus Tip: Start changing out your door hardware! If your hardware is basic, and you don’t enjoy it. Upgrade to better door knobs or levers. You would not believe how this can change the entire feel of your home! We have done it in every home we have lived in.
Happy Sprucing, Friend!
