From Blooms to Clean Rooms: Home & Garden Books That Shaped My Home
I had no choice but to be a book girl. Growing up, my mother would read to me every single night. I have the best memories of taking turns reading Harry Potter chapters out loud with my mom, and my dad always making his way in to listen. As I have grown, my affinity for books has not changed, but I have grown partial to nonfiction books, especially anything about homes, gardens, cooking, and business (oh I can nerd out with a really good business book!). Over the years, books have come and gone into our home, but these Home and Garden morsels of goodness have survived and avoided the donation piles. Without further ado, the books that have remained the top of my stacks:
The Martha Manual. If ANYONE knows how to take care of a home, it is Martha. This manual is incredibly thorough and shares hundreds of tutorials on home and garden care. Need to hang your own wallpaper? Martha will show you how. Have questions on painting furniture? Martha has the answers.
The Home Edit: A Guide to Organizing & Realizing Your House. The nationally renowned organizing queens, Clea & Joanna from The Home Edit have written several books on organizing. This particular book I have linked is their very first one, and shares beautiful imagery that will provide inspiration for organizing any space. Whether your pantry is a cupboard or a walk-in mansion (LOL), they have organizing solutions galore!
Pizzazzerie: Entertain in Style. Courtney Whitmore, also known as Pizzazzerie on social media, is an entertaining guru! Her tablescapes are gorgeous, and she shows you exactly how to create them in her first entertaining book. Whether you are throwing a birthday party or a book club gathering, she shares a unique, yet attainable way to create a memorable party!
Floret Farm’s Cut Flower Garden. Whether you are a novice gardener or a seasoned green thumb, Erin’s book will teach you something new about growing flowers. If you would love to cut flowers from your own backyard to add to your kitchen vase, this book is for you. Erin is an absolute expert on everything flowers; no really, she owns a ginormous flower farm and you can even purchase seeds from her farm! I cannot forget to mention the photography in this book is stunning!
Simply Clean: The Proven Method for Keeping Your Home Organized, Clean, & Beautiful in Just 10 Minutes a Day. The author Becky Rapinchuk is the QUEEN of clean. This is so much so that her nickname is Clean Mama. I have been following her since 2017, and swear by her daily tasks. Every day of the week is a small task to keep your home running smoothly (i.e.: Saturdays are for washing sheets and towels) I love that this book includes a 7 Day Kickstart, as well as a 28 Day Challenge to really help give you a realistic way to approach your home.
A Simplified Life: Tactical Tools for Intentional Living I remember thinking to myself that this book could not have come at a more perfect time during its release back in 2017. I, just like the author Emily, was experiencing a season of burnout and overwhelm. There was just too much going on, and I needed to reprioritize. Emily’s book covers not only how to address the physical clutter, but the mental load in our minds, too. 10/10
