6 Easy Decluttering Tips You Can Act On This Weekend

Do you wish there was something you could do right this moment to take the overwhelm and chaos out of your home? Today I am sharing 6 super easy & simple tips you can do over a weekend to declutter and take back your home! If you can’t do them all, pick one or two. You will be glad you did!

  1. Open & Sort Your Mail Pile. Whether tall or short, do not put your mail off any longer. Sort into recycling, shred, and attention-needed piles. A great habit is to recycle the envelope immediately. It may sound odd, but it cuts down on the amount of paper grasping for your attention. For my best tips regarding mail organization, see my blog post all about taming your mail pile here.

  2. Walk around your home with a trash can and/or recycling bin. Toss your 2 day old Chick Fil A Sunjoy cup and that receipt from 3 weeks ago. Wrappers, plastic water bottles, and napkins need to go!

  3. Empty your sink or dishwasher. Of course, it is always a good habit to make sure your sink is clear before you go to bed each night, but I also know life happens! If there are dishes in the sink, get them scrubbed and put in the dishwasher. If the dishwasher is full, run a cycle, and put the dishes away. Clean dishes in cabinets are just so calming and it means nothing is beckoning for you to wash them!

  4. Sort through your junk drawer. Toss out anything you don’t use: Pens that don’t work anymore and twist ties you will never use. Sort coins into a piggy bank and put your nail file back in your bathroom.

  5. Break down your Amazon boxes. We need to have a talk, ladies! Breaking down boxes is way easier and faster than you might think. Stop tossing them into the garage for someone else to break down. Just remember: “if not you, then who? if not now, then when?” You are the who and now is the time! I believe in you!

  6. Walk around with a basket and collect all items that need to be put away. Toss in any items that don’t belong in the room in which you find them. Once you have completed your stroll around the house, dump the contents of the basket out and sort. Once sorted, return the items to their proper homes.

Bonus Tip: Light your favorite candle. There is something about a candle being lit in a clean home! If you are not a candle gal, try a diffuser and mix up your favorite oils. Also shout out to my favorite candle warmer (here)! My candles last so much longer with this lamp and there is no flame involved!
