Ready or Not, August is here which means back-to school is in the air! The smell of fresh pencils wafts through the Target aisles (started pretty aggressively July 5th if we are being honest), traffic is picking back up, and the extracurriculars are… well, extracurricular-ing. This either excites you or creates dread. If you are the latter, not to fear; I am sharing some quick and easy tips for getting you back into a beloved routine and easing the back-to-school blues!

  1. Family Wall Calendar. Keep your family in the loop with a monthly wall calendar placed where all can see. Everyone will be on the same page…quite literally. This is the calendar we use.

  2. Lunch Box Station. I love a good lunch box station. Include all supplies you need to pack a lunch: sharpie & post-it for fun notes, festive napkins (I save napkins from birthday parties we have thrown, but you can find some fun ones at Home Goods), Ziplock baggies, cookie cutters for making fun shapes with cheese or sandwiches, etc. Who knows, this lunchbox station may make packing lunch fun again!

  3. School Supply Station. Go through your current stash of school supplies. Throw out dried highlighters and broken pencils. Take note of what is missing and stock up during the school supplies sales. Our school supply station is in a cabinet, but a drawer in a credenza or even a shoebox you keep in an accessible location are both great options!

  4. Drop Station. Create a designated zone for backpacks, lunchboxes, and important school papers to be dropped after school every day. No more tearing the house apart looking for that overdue permission slip.

  5. Be “Future You’s” hero. Let tomorrow’s you thank today’s you for planning ahead. Whether that is packing lunch the night before for an extra 10 minutes of sleep (or an extra ten minutes of drinking your coffee while it is warm) or laying out tomorrow’s clothes before bed, be your own hero!
