Have you ever pulled up to your home after a long day, and the state of the outside of your home just makes you feel worse? I have been there! We have had the pleasure of completely re-vamping the exterior of our home in San Antonio. It went from dull to gorgeous with fresh paint, amongst other upgrades! Today, I am sharing 5 (pretty) easy tips you can tackle over a weekend to make your home exterior one that you love!
Show Your Front Door Some Love: It is incredible what fresh coat of paint or stain can do for an entryway. You may also consider updating your door’s hardware (handles, knockers, etc). Don’t forget house numbers! The font/type of house numbers you pick say a lot about your personal style. Have fun with it! Pro Tip: It is probably not the first place you would look for house numbers, but both Anthropologie & Etsy have options with tons of personality!
Light It Up: If your front porch light is outdated, consider upgrading to an exterior-rated wall sconce or pendant light. Not only can these lights add sophistication to your exterior, they can also provide an additional safety measure at night! Also, don’t forget landscape lighting! There are so many beautiful solar-powered options to light shrubs or pathways.
Get Your Hands (a little) Dirty: Simple lawn upgrades such as planting flowers, shrubs, or potted plants around the entrance can make a huge difference! If you love the look of potted plants, but have a black thumb, check out my favorite faux cypress trees from Amazon that actually look real. Linked here. Just add your favorite planter & mulch, and you are done!
Pro Tip: If you have a big planter, fill it with the base of your faux plant, recyclables and rocks on the bottom, and leave the mulch for the very top. No one will know! Just make sure to avoid empty water bottles, as those can float to the top if rains. Shout out to my aunt for that tip!
Incorporate Shutters and Window Boxes: Look into installing small window boxes with seasonal plants (mums, poinsettias, etc.) This a fun yet subtle way to acknowledge the season. Another fun project would be adding decorative shutters that compliment your home to add both texture and dimension to the front of the house. Be sure the shutters you select truly match the style of your home!
You’ve Got the Power: Power wash your driveway, any walkways, and the exterior of the house. Power washing can give your home a fresh facelift! Not to mention, you can power wash your rugs and outdoor furniture while you are at it! I have my eye on this highly rater sucker!
Bonus Tip: Change out your old front door mat for a fresh one, add a beautiful wreath, and your job here is done!
