Spring is SO CLOSE, I can practically taste it! While you wait for the warmer sun and chirping birds to arrive, there are some great things you can do in the mean time to prep your home for Spring before it officially arrives:
Change Bulbs & Batteries: Change out the bulbs on your burnt out flood lights or that one light on the front porch you have been meaning to fix (ahem…me) While you are at it, check the bulbs (these are my new favorite bulbs) inside your home, as well as batteries on items like smoke detectors.
Open Your Windows: Let out the dust that has built up over winter, and let in the warm sun rays and fresh air! I promise it makes quite the noticeable difference!
Clean Your windows: Speaking of windows, grab a squeegee and make those puppies shine again! If you aren’t down to do it yourself, hire a window cleaning company.
“Dust” Your Exterior: Take a long duster made for outside (like this one) and remove the cob webs, tree debris, and any other dirt from around and under your awnings. Dust your exterior light fixtures, too.
Power Wash: If it is safe to do so on your home, take a morning or afternoon and give your house exterior a good clean! If you do not own a pressure washer, there are plenty of companies that offer this service and do a fantastic job! If you are in the market for a pressure washer, I have heard fantastic things about this one, and I am eyeing it for myself, too!
Prune & Prep: If you have flowering plants/bushes make sure you read up on how to properly care for them. Most rose bushes are just about ready for pruning in Texas. Look up your specific type before going crazy with the pruning shears, so you know how much or how little to trim. Don’t forget to deadhead those old buds!
Plan Your Garden/Plants: Are you dreaming of hydrangeas? (Full disclosure, this is 100 percent me) Make sure you know the earliest and latest you should get them into the ground. Make sure you know where the sun hits in the morning and afternoon in your yard, so you can ensure the plants you love will thrive where you plant them. While you are in the garden dreaming mood, go ahead and stock up on soil, fertilizer and any special plant food or natural pest preventatives your specific plants will need! (psssttt…I have used Neem Oil pretty successfully and recommend you check it out to keep aphids off your beloved petals. Live ladybugs are great garden warriors, too! Check your local garden store to see if they carry them in bulk!)
Wipe Down Your Mail Box (interior & exterior): When was the last time you wiped down the interior of your mailbox? Yup, me too. Let’s give her a quick, but good clean!
Hose Down Your Trash Can:. Yes, trash cans are okay to be dirty, but man they can get NASTY over time if you don’t pay attention to what collects at the bottom. No need to go crazy, but take a hose and spray down the inside (bonus points for cleaning the outside, too). Let air dry.
Refresh Your Front Porch: Dust off your Winter wreath, and store away until next year. Bring out your happiest Spring wreath! Clean out any dead plants from your planters & swap out your door mat for a fresh, clean one that feels welcoming. Welcome, Spring!
